"Mommy (Daddy), Do You Know..."

Rebecca is five years old going on 15. Yeah, just what I was thinking. Scary! This little girl is constantly thinking. I really love her for that. She has such a strong mind, and it is continually working, thinking about life, Jesus Christ, Heavenly Father, relationships with family and friends, and how to get along. I am really amazed by her, and her ability to think things through. While it exasperates me at times, like when I'm in the middle of Walmart with Ryan screaming to get out of the cart, and she starts asking me if there will be trees, and grass, and flowers in Heaven. I really am so thankful for her wisdom and ability to argue. Okay, the arguing -- not so much, but I know she will use it to her benefit someday!

Here are some examples of the mind-workings of my 5 year old.

Jon was outside this week digging trenches for our sprinkler system he is putting in. I was at the store, after putting Ryan to bed. Rebecca and her dad were outside "working" when Jon asked Rebecca to go in the house and get him a band-aid, as he had a blister on his hand. He told her to go look on his side of the bathroom in his top drawer and get him a band-aid. She went running enthusiastically up the stairs, because she cannot stand her daddy being hurt (if it were me, she would have let me bleed to death), and came back down with a little square package with the word "Trojan" on it.

"Here Daddy. Let me take care of it for you. I found the band-aid just like you said, in your top drawer. I want to be a doctor when I grow up".

"Uh, thanks, Rebecca. I uh...is that all the band-aids you found?" Needless to say, Jon will be getting his own band-aids next time!

On another occasion this week, she had a neighborhood boy over to play. She has been spending so much time out in the sun, and has developed a really nice, dark tan. These two kids were outside playing together for about 3 hours, and loving every minute of it. Alicio's parents come from Jamaica, and are a nice African-American family. They were having fun, and after he went home, Rebecca said very emphatically, "My skin is getting really brown but not as brown as Alicio's. He's REALLY brown!!" She then wanted to know WHY he was so much more brown than her. Ahhh, the things we get to explain!

So, that's Rebecca in a nut-shell. A real stinker thinker! We love you Becca!
